Press Statement on the 2012 Presidential Election – Freetown, Saturday 24 November 2012
By Julius Maada Bio Brig. (Rtd.) Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) 2012 Presidential Candidate
Fellow Sierra Leoneans, on 23rd November, 2012, the Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) announced results of the November 17, 2012 Presidential Elections in favour of the All Peoples Congress.
As the Party has indicated in an earlier press release, we had raised concerns about electoral irregularities including fake and unstamped Reconciliation and Result Forms, pre-marked ballot papers, ballot stuffing and over-voting in Kono, the Western Area and the Northern Province. These and many more other instances of malpractices undermined the credibility of the results. The Commission refused to address our concerns. More disturbing is that the Commission pre-maturely stopped recounting of ballot papers from polling stations whose results were quarantined.
Fellow Sierra Leoneans, you will recall that we had earlier stated our position that we cannot accept results of any rigged election. We believe that the process was fraudulent and the results do not reflect the will of the people of Sierra Leone.
We call on our membership and supporters to remain calm and to be law-abiding. We implore you all to report all incidents of the ongoing provocation and violence against our supporters to the nearest Police Station and inform your respective Constituency and District Party executives accordingly.
The Party will soon contact you on our official line of action. Finally, let me thank you for your unflinching loyalty and support to the Party even in the face of tremendous challenges.
God bless Sierra Leone. One Country, One People
Signed: Julius Maada Bio Brig. (Rtd.) SLPP 2012 Presidential Candidate
