Press Statement Freetown, 26th March, 2018
The Women’s Situation Room- Sierra Leone (WSR-SL) Calls for Peace as we go to the Runoff Elections
The Women’s Situation Room (Sierra Leone) acknowledges the lifting of the interim injunction restraining the National Electoral Commission from conducting the Presidential run-off Election on Tuesday 27th March 2018. We further take cognisance of the announcement of Saturday 31st March 2018 as the new date for the Presidential runoff Elections by the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
We therefore implore NEC and all relevant stakeholders to quickly disseminate and sensitise the general public on this new date to ensure that Sierra Leoneans exercise their franchise.
We urge the political parties and the general public to remain calm and abstain from any behaviour that will undermine the conduct of the runoff elections.
Finally, we call on the Sierra Leone Police to safeguard the electoral materials and to ensure the safety and security of all Sierra Leoneans.
Our Call Centre remains open and we encourage political parties and the general public to continue calling our Toll Free number 977 in order to report any threat or incidence of violence for our immediate intervention.
“PEACE DAY NA WE HAN”
Peace is in our hands
